01-11-11 Hackensack, NJ 2nd Alarm
January 11, 2010 - At approx 0940 hrs the Hackensack Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident (not sure of exact location) and while Engine Company 4 left Headquarters and turned onto East Central Avenue they noticed a heavy smoke condition coming from a house on West Central Avenue off Railroad Avenue. As Engine 4 was approaching, Headquarters put tones out for reported fire at that location. Engine 4 called on scene right away and requested a 2nd alarm for heavy fire on the front porch of a 2 1/2 wood frame.
About thirteen people were out of the building moments before firefighters arrived. Ridgefield Park Truck Company 1 was the covering Truck for the City while HFD Ladder 1 was operating at the 3rd alarm in South Hackensack. Fire Investigators report the fire possibly started by a discarded cigarette. No injuries were reported.
