January 06, 2009 - Erie, PA - A man was having a domestic dispute with his wife and she went to the police station to report he was beating her. When police arrived the man was fully armed with a rifle with a scope and had shot thru a police car and had 4 officers pinned down. Over 50 or more rounds were fired into street. Swat teams were called in then man set his house on fire. Fire dept could not get to house fire due to gun fire and 2 houses burned to ground. After no shots were fired for over an hour Fire dept set up attacks with heavy caliber streams.. A badly burned body believed the gun man was found the next day. DNA will take time to determine if it is the gunman.

DNA tests needed to ID body

The search continued in the wet and cold Wednesday for evidence at the home that burned to the ground at 1354 W. 25th St.
Little was found, Erie Police Chief Steve Franklin said.
"There's not a whole lot that we can do when the house has virtually burned to the ground," he said.
Police did find evidence of two guns inside the house, he said.
Police also found a badly burned body, but Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said he cannot identify the remains until DNA tests are returned, a process that could take as long as three months.
Police said they believe the body is that of Robert Daniels, 42. Police said Daniels fired on them repeatedly from the home before it caught fire early Tuesday.
Firefighters were held back from the scene for an hour while police made sure the scene was secure. Roads were closed, and the SWAT team and a state police helicopter were called in during the tense morning standoff, during which Roberts fired on police sporadically for about an hour, police said.
Both 1354 W. 25th St. and the neighboring home, 1356 W. 25th St., were destroyed by the blaze.
