09/11/08 - Dumont, NJ
Dumont, NJ - Private 1st Class Christian Baierwalter of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 113th Infantry based out of Jersey City, New Jersey arrived at Camp Bucca which is on the outskirts of Umm, Iraq on September 11th, 2008. Camp Bucca is a prison camp maintained by the United States military. The camp holds thousands of prisoners which many are known Al-Qaeda members and Christian’s duties include driving prisoners in a armored personnel carrier or as its gunner . He is also detailed to guard the prisoners in the camp. Christian is expected to return home in June of 2009.
Christian has been a active member with the Dumont Fire Department Company 3 currently assigned with Rescue 3. In June of 2007 as I was photographing a drill with members from Dumont that were training on a vacant house with members from New Milford Ladder 31, I happened to take several photos of Christian helping his Brothers “vent the roof” with a big smile on his face. I really never knew who he was until I heard his last name and that he was going to war. I searched over 50,000 photos on my computer and found 14. If anyone has photos of Christian and wants them posted here, please email them to me.
I’m very proud of you Christian and wish you and your Brothers In Arms a fast and safe TOD and know that there are people who stand behind our brave men and women serving our military and support all of you. God Bless you and looking to see you when you come HOME!
*** Please post some comments for Christian as I hope he and his Brothers will check in every now and again. ***
