Kara Burns - Oradell, NJ Fire Department

My name is Kara Burns and I have been a firefighter and active member of the Oradell Volunteer Fire Department since 2003. Recently at our holiday dinner I received my 5 year service bar. I have completed courses for Firefighter 1 & 2, Heavy Rescue, FAST team & various ICS classes. In 2006, I was among many women honored by the Women's Rights Information Center for Women in the Fire Service. I received along with the rest of my department a Unit Citation for the April 2007 Nor'Easter. Since becoming a firefighter I have been on my share of working stucture fires, extrications, general alarms, & fast team calls which have always challenged me, and those have been always an opportunity to learn and gain experience.
